On March 15, 1955, WLEX NBC news channel signed on the air. It was Lexington’s first television depot and the third in Kentucky. It carried programs from all four networks like NBC, ABC, CBS, and Dumont. Later that year the Dumont network went out of the commercial. WLEX TV broadcast the first telecast of a Kentucky Wildcats basketball game on February 18, 1956. This station became a full-time NBC member in 1968. The WLEX News was kept by the Gay & Bell families for many years. In 1999 they ended the station to the Evening Post. It is the only position in the group whose call letters start with a W.
